- - by EURAILmag

SWEDEN SET TO BOOST CAPACITYThe Hallandsås tunnel has been a long time coming. Back in the 1980s, the European Round Table of Industrialists and the Swedish Rail Administration agreed that tunnelling was the only way to avoid the bottleneck created by the Hallandsås ridge in southwestern Sweden. Construction began in 1992, and the tunnel is slated to open to traffic in 2015.
