In September 2011, the Alvia S-730 pulled into the station at Ourense after departing from Santiago. This 50-minute journey between the two Galician cities marked the world’s first test run of a diesel/electric high-speed train. “This is a very innovative project for a very special and versatile train, one that will be able to run through every railway,” said Avelino Castro, managing director of Integria, the industrial division of Spanish operator Renfe.
